About Us
Saron Lutheran is an ELCA (Evangelical Lutheran Church of America) congregation. We are a church that walks by faith, trusting God’s promise in the gospel and knowing that we exist by and for the proclamation of this gospel word. We proclaim Jesus Christ crucified and raised from the dead for the life of the world.
We are one in Christ Jesus. We recognize the brokenness of church in history, and the call of God to heal this disunity.
What’s in a Name?
The name “Saron” comes from the Plains of Sharon (on the Israeli coast) and conveys natural beauty, abundance, and prosperity. It is easy to imagine the early Swedish settlers finding Chequamegon Bay a place of natural beauty and abundance; they probably hoped for prosperity in their new lives in Wisconsin. In fact, the first church the Swedish Lutherans built in 1884 was called “Sharon Lutheran Church,” and it is undocumented when the name changed to “Saron.”
